With the holiday season just around the corner, pop sensation Taylor Swift decided to surprise a group of underprivileged children by providing them with monetary aid. This gesture comes just days after the singer paid a heartwarming visit to the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Missouri. Similarly, Taylor Swift contributed generously to a Kansas City-based organization called Operation Breakthrough.
Here’s everything you need to know regarding the 14-time Grammy winner’s latest charitable act.
Taylor Swift donates to Operation Breakthrough
Last week, the “Cruel Summer” singer’s team placed a phone call to the CEO of the said Kansas City organization. They informed her of Taylor Swift’s intentions to make a sizeable donation of a quarter of a million dollars ($250,000).
In response, Mary Esselman, the CEO of Operation Breakthrough, expressed her gratitude towards the philanthropic artist, stating, “Our kids were pretty excited. We asked them if they wanted to do a little thank you, and you could see we had a lot of enthusiastic participants.” The children of the Kansas City organization followed suit and curated a one-minute video to showcase their appreciation for Swift.
As reported by USA Today, the money donated by the singer will be used to jumpstart three programs. The first will be the workforce development and entrepreneurship program, which would see the initiation of 10 labs for kids to wrap their hands around the industry trades. The second venture, known as the before and after-school program, would provide childcare services to families during school breaks.
Meanwhile, the third and final program would fall under the early learners scheme. Operation Breakthrough is a nonprofit organization that aims to help children from low-income families through various programs and child care.
Notably, Taylor Swift’s longtime partner and Kansas City resident Travis Kelce has shared associations with Operation Breakthrough since March 2015. He positively sponsors the 87 and Running robotics team each year and even paid for a muffler shop in 2020 to assist in the organization’s workforce development and entrepreneurship program.
